Admission Criteria & Suitability

Understanding who we can support and how we assess suitability for care at Kings Lodge.

Who We Can Support

Adults aged 18 and over with complex neurological conditions or acquired brain injury who require 24/7 experienced nursing and high-dependency support in a calm, homelike environment.

We provide specialist care for individuals with:

Respiratory Support Needs

  • Tracheostomy care
  • Ventilated support
  • Complex airway management

Nutritional Support

  • PEG feeding
  • Complex dietary requirements
  • Swallowing difficulties

Neurological Conditions

  • Acquired brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Progressive neurological conditions

Care Pathways

  • Long-term complex care
  • Step-down from hospital
  • Planned respite care

High monitoring needs: We support individuals who require continuous clinical observation, complex medication management, and specialist nursing interventions in a calm, non-clinical environment.

When We May Not Be the Right Setting

We want to ensure every individual receives the most appropriate care for their specific needs. Kings Lodge may not be suitable in these situations:

Primary dementia care needs

Where the primary need is dementia-led care rather than complex neurological or high-dependency nursing support.

Secure environment requirements

Individuals currently detained or sectioned under mental health legislation who require a secure environment.

Unmanaged high-risk behaviours

Behaviours that cannot be safely supported in our homelike environment without compromising the wellbeing of other residents.

Our commitment: If we're not the right fit, we'll help you find appropriate alternative care options and provide guidance on suitable services.

How We Assess Suitability

A senior clinician always speaks with you privately by phone first.

What We Do

  • Listen to your concerns and needs
  • Discuss clinical requirements safely
  • Explain our care approach
  • Assess suitability honestly

What We Don't Do

  • Ask for medical history online
  • Request clinical notes via website
  • Use call centres or junior staff
  • Rush important decisions

Privacy & Dignity Protection

We handle all clinical discussions one-to-one, confidentially, with a senior clinician. Your medical information is never shared through website forms or chat systems.
